Avoid Trojan Horse Removal Problems - Use a Firewall

Named after the Greek Horse at Troy, computer Trojans are programs designed for something other than they claim. Unfortunately, trojan horse removal is not always straightforward. Trojans are usually invisible or hidden, and attach onto system files making removal very difficult. Often they are disguised as a useful utility (a freeware firewall or game for example), but in the background they gather personal information from your computer and send it over the net to 'the bad guys'. In most cases you need a trojan horse removal utility that is designed specifically for the trojan horse infection on your machine.

The most common type recently have been BackDoor Trojans and Password Stealers. These let other people access your machine and use its resources (internet connection for example), and steal data. If you have an infection of this type speedy removal is essential.  You should use your antivirus software to identify the specific trojan horse infecting your system, and then use the proper trojan horse removal tool to get rid of it properly and safely.

Trojan horse removal tools will find and remove any infected files, then try repairing damaged files (or at least identify them), and then clean up your windows registry to clean out any 'dirty' entries that the trojan horse may have inserted. If you have a large hard drive, this process can take some time.

Recommended Trojan Horse Removal Resources

  • Norton Utilities: The most comprehensive set of integrated computer utilities (including trojan horse removal) keeps your system running smoothly - automatic hands-off system stability.
  • Pc Cillin: All-in-one: antivirus / anti trojan horse, anti-spam, firewall for your PC and PDA. Use this link for $10 off one of the premier PC security software suites.

  • McAfee Internet Suite: One of the top guns in antivirus, worm, and trojan horse removal / protection for home and business computer users.

Basic steps for trojan horse removal:

  1. Scan your system using up-to-date antivirus scanners
  2. Let the scanner take care of the trojan horse removal automatically (Norton, McAfee and Pc-Cillin do this)
  3. If it can't, it will recommend a dedicated trojan horse removal utility. Download then run that specific removal tool on your machine.
  4. Installing a firewall & updating your antivirus software prevents new trojan horse infections.

Of course properly installed and configured firewall and anti-virus software are the best way to prevent trojan horse infections.  In order to prevent your machine from getting re-infected, make sure your virus software is completely up-to-date, and install a good quality firewall that will prevent any more unauthorized trojan horse access into your computer.
