Xoftspy 3.44 spyware remover replaced by Xoftspy 4.0

Xoftspy 3.44 got a bad rap due to Paretologic's poorly moderated affiliate program which allowed affiliates to use deceptive and highly unethical advertising practices. Furthermore, malware/adware/spyware detection in version 3.44 was prone to false positives (this means that the utility said reported spyware, adware and malware where there really was none.

This spyware remover software also was nothing more that a poorly executed clone of Lavasoft's excellent AdAware spy ware/ ad ware/malware scanner utility (which is available for FREE, unlike Paretologic's Xoftspy 3 offering, which offers LESS PROTECTION for a FEE!).

However, since the release of 4 Paretologic has done some work and improved the adware and spyware scanner's problem with false positives and added some features that make it stand out from other AdAware clones.

The problem remains, however that Paretologic's software offers nothing superior to their competitors FREE AdAware offering which is just as good at detecting adware, malware and spyware, but is offered as a completely free download.

If you want to have an excellent "one two" punch combo for removal of spy ware, ad ware and malware from your computer, you should consider downloading and installing Lavasoft's Adaware and SpyBot Search and Destroy (Spyware Blaster is another good choice if you use Microsoft's Internet Explorer web browser).

Adaware and Spybot are two of the best products in this category and they are completely FREE. There really is no reason to get sucked into using a second rate product like Paretologic's Xoftspy. If you MUST pay for anti-spyware, use something from a more legitimate vendor such as GIANT (which was recently purchased by Microsoft) or WebRoot's SpySweeper which are both available for a reasonable price and offer functionality beyond that of the free offerings by other adware/spyware/malware software vendors.

The problem of spyware and adware can be a difficult one to tackle, but don't make the problem worse than it already is by supporting companies like Paretologic that offer little more than imitation of other products and deceptive marketing practices instead of hiring programmers to come up with truly innovative spyware removal utilities.
